    • Completed 8 contact hours on the Role and Responsibilities of Certified Deaf Interpreters

    Application

    You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been received.

    All applications must be verified (may take up to two weeks).  Once verification is complete,  instructions will be emailed to make payment.

    Note: ALL BEI test applications are cross-checked with other BEI states (MO, MI, TX, WI) to ensure that an applicant has not taken the same test within the past six months in another state.

    Payment

    All payments are made online.

    All testing fees are non-refundable.

    Out-of-state applicants pay an additional $35.00 fee for testing services in Illinois.

    Once payment is complete, scheduling instructions will be emailed .

    Scheduling

    IDHHC will email instructions to self-schedule a testing appointment.

    Once a test has been booked using the online booking system, you will receive an acknowledgement of your scheduled test date and time. 

    Rescheduling

    All requests to reschedule a booked test are subject to a $20.00 rescheduling fee. 

    Accommodations

    If you have a disability and need a reasonable modification, the IDHHC will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Please email DHH.interpreter@illinois.gov to make a formal request. 

    Proper documentation that describes the nature of your disability and the modifications you are requesting is required.

    Resources

    Candidates are strongly encouraged to review the Illinois BEI Manual to become familiar with the general format, content, and evaluation criteria used in the examinations.  This manual contains the IDHHC's policies and procedures for the testing process and can be found on the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters page.
