Center for Independent Living

Find Your Center for Independent Living (CIL)

There are 22 CILs located throughout Illinois.  CILs offer a number of core services including but not limited to advocacy, counseling, independent living skills training, and information & referral to people with disabilities across the state of Illinois.  CILs empower individuals with disabilities with knowledge and skills to make life choices and pursue goals in order to fully participate in their communities.  Some CILs have Deaf Service Coordinators (DSCs) which communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) and can provide information specifically related to hearing loss.  Please contact your local center to learn what services are available.

IDHHC does not routinely provide individual advocacy assistance.  IDHHC works towards systemic change and removing barriers to communication access for all deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind individuals.  IDHHC is available to provide information & referral assistance.  When necessary, IDHHC will provide educational outreach to service providers about their legal requirements to provide effective communication.
